What caused the TFE and Kynar- PVDF extended delivery times

Throughout the last year, the industry has had more allocations than I have come across in my 30 years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have observed several shortages, and delivery problems because of plastic resin allocations from resin companies. This is definitely the first instance I have seen all these issues at one time.

PTFE (TFE) and PVDF both are on allocation.

This pair of resins are in short supply. The  PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene product PTFE (TFE) and Kynar-PVDF  manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The world demand for this mineral has risen significantly, as well as supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and very low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilized within tons of applications from non-stick fry pots and pans to ptfe tape for use at home. This specific mineral is the crucial raw material in the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and many refrigerants. This increasing amount of demand bundled with shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double during the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to stay in affect in the near future.
