PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene products, PTFE (TFE) and also Kynar-PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide need for this mineral has increased significantly, as well as supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and really low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is used throughout dozens of purposes from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for personal use. This mineral is a critical raw materials inside the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and many refrigerants. This increase in demand coupled with shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double over the past year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to continue in the near future.
