A young boy rises-- Barbados shrinking below, Halifax broadening ahead. Trade once connected these places; conscience did, too. Halifax became a safe harbour for those ranging from the American South, evidence that geography can learn morality. Africville shows both the strength of Black neighbourhood and the expenses of forgetting. Across decades, Barbadian arrivals included rhythm and solve to Canadian life: Joe Sealy's chords, Oliver Jones's swing, Anne Cools's trailblazing service, Cameron Bailey's curatorial eye. The Atlantic bridge carries more than cargo; it brings character.
